Independence has been published for 40 years. It originated as the journal of the Headmasters Conference of Independent Schools of Australia (HMC). When HMC joined with the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ Schools of Australia (AHIGSA) to form AHISA in 1985, Independence was retained as the flagship publication of the new association.

The current and previous issues of Independence, commencing with the first issue of 2006, are able to be viewed and searched within our digital archive. The ‘browse issues’ button on the bottom menu of the view allows for quick access to individual issues. Single issues or the entire archive can also be searched by keyword. The search function is activated from the right-hand menu of the view. On this menu there are also options to print pages or the share them by emailing, tweeting or posting to Facebook and other social media sites.
