Leading a networked school community

AHISA’s Leading a Networked School Community research project resulted from an invitation to the AHISA Chief Executive, Allan Shaw, from Mal Lee and Glenn Finger to contribute to their forthcoming book on the topic.

AHISA took the opportunity the invitation offered to apply its Model of Autonomous School Principalship to a specific leadership issue, and explore the question of whether there are distinctive leadership traits required of an autonomous school leader in developing a networked school community.

Thirteen AHISA members and/or their staff volunteered to be interviewed. Their reflections on digital and non-digital forms of networking of school communities formed the basis of a qualitative research paper. From this, a chapter was prepared for editors Mal Lee and Glenn Finger’s book, Leading a networked school community. The full research paper will be available on publication of the book.

An extract of the research paper was also published in Independence Vol 36 No 2, October 2011 under the title, Autonomous school leadership and relationship building.

Edited transcripts of interviews with AHISA members and/or their staff will be published here shortly.
