Draft National Teacher Workforce Action Plan

AHISA’s feedback on the draft Action Plan draws attention to the need to address the longer-term stability of Australia’s teacher workforce as well as immediate critical teacher shortages. AHISA recommends strategies that hold the promise of both short-term and longer-term gains in stabilising the teacher workforce, including:

• Introduction of a national teacher-mentor program to support pre-service, Graduate and experienced teachers and minimise attrition from the profession at key career stages.
• A national policy focus on schools’ middle tier of leadership to both enrich the career pathway of teachers and early school leaders and improve the leadership skills of those who most closely supervise the work of teachers.
