AHISA SUBMISSION

Australian Bureau of Statistics

Review of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO)

26 July 2022

AHISA’s submission referred to the relationship between ANZSCO, skills classification and labour force data in relation to the determination of skills shortages, and therefore to the Skilled Occupations List which informs governments’ decisions on temporary skilled migration to Australia.

AHISA presented a skills comparison of the ANZSCO occupation ‘School Principal’, as previously prepared for the National Skills Commission, to illustrate the inaccuracies that can arise when generalising skills in occupations across different countries and the challenges in linking skills to ANZSCO occupations within countries.
