AHISA SUBMISSION

Expert Review of Australia’s VET system

Review of Australia’s vocational education and training system

The focus of AHISA’s submission is vocational education and training (VET) provision in schools. Drawing on the results of a survey of members, AHISA demonstrates that while schools enthusiastically pursue VET pathways to meet the diverse needs of students, VET provision in schools is under stress. There are significant resourcing and staffing issues, made more complex by an extreme compliance burden.

The submission outlines a number of ways in which governments, industry groups, employers and external VET providers can support schools if they are to continue to deliver excellent outcomes for students and meet public policy goals.

The submission also argues that governments must exercise caution before introducing major system interventions that cannot be sustained beyond a change in government.
